Coming October 6th, Kerri Rivas on "CHP Task Force on Human Trafficking"
Kerri Rivas works with the California Highway Patrol’s efforts to combat human trafficking, bringing a law-enforcement perspective to the identification, investigation, and prevention of trafficking in California. Through collaboration with law enforcement agencies and community partners, her work focuses on increasing awareness, recognizing indicators of trafficking, and helping protect vulnerable individuals.

During her presentation to the Rotary Club of La Jolla, Kerri will provide insight into human trafficking, how law enforcement responds to it, warning signs the public should recognize, and ways communities can help support prevention efforts.

Coming October 13th, Jeb Bakke District Governor on "District Governor visit and Paul Harris volunteer recognitions"

Join the Rotary Club of La Jolla as we welcome District Governor Jeb Bakke for a special club presentation and award ceremony. Governor Baake will share insights from his Rotary leadership and recognize members for their service, commitment, and contributions to Rotary’s mission.

The program will be an opportunity to hear directly from our District Governor, celebrate the impact of Rotary service, and recognize those helping lead and strengthen our Rotary community.

Coming October 20th, Alexander Gurshunov on "El Nino and our changing climate"

Dr. Alexander “Sasha” Gershunov is a research meteorologist and climate scientist at Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego, where his work explores the connections between weather, climate, and society. His research focuses particularly on California and the western United States, examining climate variability and change, heat waves, drought and precipitation, atmospheric rivers, Santa Ana winds, marine-layer clouds, and extreme weather.

A major focus of Dr. Gershunov’s work is understanding how a changing climate affects communities. His research has explored the impacts of extreme weather on wildfires, water resources, ecosystems, energy, and public health, as well as how human activity influences climate.

His recent work includes research into Southern California’s increasing heat risks, including how warming ocean temperatures can contribute to hotter, more humid conditions and elevated nighttime temperatures, particularly in coastal communities.

Through decades of climate research, Dr. Gershunov helps translate complex climate science into a better understanding of what changing weather patterns mean for Southern California and the people who live here.
